Let’s say you want a short but super challenging fitness program that works you hard, pushes you to new limits AND allows you perform your everyday activities even better than you do now…. Then you need to do The Prep with Amoila Cesar

Overview

Some details about The Prep fitness program:

  • It is 4 weeks long
  • There are 6 workouts per week
  • The workouts last 30-40 minutes long

You might argue that 30-40 minutes isn’t enough time for a challenging workout. Not true! Each Prep workout  (outside of Range and Repair) kicked MY BUTT each DAY!

I admit I shied away from doing Amoila’s Beachbody programs for a few years now, having been intimidated by what I watched in the trailers. However with Amoila’s newest 645  launching, I decided it would be good to finally get a taste of one of his programs.

SO!  I committed to doing The Prep!

What I learned …. THE PREP is a great way to level up, work hard and change my body for the better.

About the Prep

Some history about The Prep … Interestingly, The Work was the program that came out first. Being an advanced program, The Work, was so difficult for many interested challengers that a few months later, Amoila lauched The Prep to provide a beginner-intermediate option to bridge the gap.

Since this program was created in a short period of time to meet a demand, there are just 11 separate workouts so each of the workouts are repeated in the schedule.

Keep in mind this is different from The Work which was recorded real time and has 36 separate workouts – one for each day on the program calendar.

Whether you plan to do The Prep on it’s own, or you want to ramp up for The Work. I highly recommend this program.

My First Three Days

I was so used to the upbeat music and lively chatter of Shaun T in Let’s Get Up that I found Amoila to be quite mellow and too quiet in the initial videos. I feed off of the energy and enthusiasm of the Beachbody super trainers to get through a tough workout – I was a bit taken aback when I first started the prep.

It took a few days for me to settle into this new program and It took about as long and for me to appreciate Amoila’s great banter and energy. Those few days in, I found myself enjoying the program more and learning from Amoila. I just love what he teaches us about the moves as he leads us through the workouts. I also enjoy the dynamics between Amoila and the cast.

One thing I was amused about as I scrolled to The Prep workouts – there is an explicit and non-explicit version of the programs! In my opinion, Amoila really doesn’t curse a lot but he does throw out expletives for sure! If you are offended by strong language, definitely choose the non-explicit workouts option.

The Format of the Workouts

While all workouts of THE PREP differ due to their different purposes, they all follow a similar format using blocks and sets. Most of the blocks are made up of 3 sets and sometimes there is a 4th. Also, there can be multiple blocks per workout – the amount of those vary as well.

Every day is Total Body day!

With most strength programs I’ve done, there are individual workouts that  focus on certain muscle groups at a time such as upper body, lower body OR, back ,biceps, shoulders, chest and more!

Not the Prep, with the exception of leg day… Most workouts feel like all body workouts.  See how we are doing one move with the upper body while doing something else with our legs….

I found that these moves challenged my stability and balance for sure.

Amoila trains professional athletes and this program is much like the training regimens that he creates for those athletic and celebrity clients.  This program has compound lifts, agility activities and mobility moves.

Let’s say you aren’t an athlete…. Well this program can still be for you as it prepares you for real life activities like chasing your kids, climbing stairs and lifting groceries. This program will help you maximize what you can do and reach your potential physically.

Side observation here: I like Amoila’s modifier for pull ups. I’ve seen pull up modifiers using resistance bands and this is a nice alternative.

It just so happened that while I was finishing up doing this program, I also decided to start  645 (overlapping programs a little bit – this is definitely NOT recommended).

Anyway, having done the workouts back to back, the prep workout first followed by 645, I can say that I found the prep way more intense.  Of course both programs serve different purposes so you cannot compare the two. In terms of difficulty, if you want a program that pushes you, The Prep is one to choose… Then you can graduate to The Work.

I want to quickly highlight two specific workouts of this program …

Range and Repair

I love that this program offers an Active Recovery workout. Range and Repair actually appears in the schedule in all four weeks.

You might be tempted to skip this one and take an additional REST day. DON’T DO IT! This workout is great for stretching those muscles and improving your flexibility and mobility.

I loved these moves – my body totally needed them!

Crucible

This is the toughest workout in the program. There is a reason you don’t do it until  13 days in! At the beginning of this program I thought this army crawl was kind of fun. Just look, you push and pull your body while gliding on the sliders. It feels like sort of a ride. Then you find out that you do this 8 more times in the program.

This workout is a killer – but I hope you don’t let it intimidate you. When you complete it you feel pretty dang badass. It’s totally worth the pain!

There you have it – my review of The Prep. Let me know in the comments below if you have tried any of Amoila’s program and if so which one. Also if there is a question you still have please post it below.

This program works you HARD and it’s so worth it. Challenge yourself and try it!
