If you are short on time and want a workout that packs a punch in 20 minutes then Job 1 with Jennifer Jacobs is for you.

First Impression

My first Job 1 workout was the sample one and wow, I was instantly hooked. 20 minutes doesn’t seem like enough time to get much done but if you have difficulty fitting exercise in your schedule, Job 1 has got your back!

I am currently training for a half marathon and Job 1 helps me add strength and cross training into my run training plan…. This 20 minute program is perfect for me!

I have to say that I love the pacing of the Job 1 workouts because I am moving pretty much the entire 20 minutes. Jennifer adeptly and quickly demonstrates the moves before the timer for the next set starts – she doesn’t miss a beat!

Format

Job 1 has a specific structure for the workout for each day of the week. They have anywhere from 2 to 4 blocks of work with 2 to 4 sets within the blocks. This image shows my breakdown. For me the first set usually feels quite doable but the subsequent ones BURN. My muscles definitely feel it!

As for the format of the program….. It is 4 weeks long, 5 days a week, Tuesday is always HIIT and Thursday is always a sweat (endurance) session. Monday, Wednesday and Friday are strength days.

Side note: I see a lot of challengers worry about the days of the week on the calendars…. My advice, don’t worry! If I cannot do my HIIT workout on Tuesday… I don’t sweat it, I do it the next day. I use the calendar to track which workout I’ve done to make sure I am following the intended flow of the program.

I like that no two strength sessions are the same. Here is a list of the workouts in the order they appear on the calendar. Not only does she mix up the days of the muscle groups but she mixes up the order and the muscle groups that she combines. I also love that she has core twice each week. I definitely need a strong core for my longer runs.

Recovery

When I first read the Job 1 calendar, I thought that it was indicating that the Recovery Stretch was optional. NO. I am going to say this in all my videos… Recovery workouts are important!

My advice, do Recovery on AT LEAST ONE of those weekend days. Jennifer’s Recovery includes slow, controlled movements. While you’re making seemingly small movements you are helping those muscles recoup!

Resistance Loops

My first experience using resistance loops was in 2018 for 80 Day Obsession.WOW did they work! While doing that program I was introduced to great ways to tone and strengthen my body with these simple bands.

I really liked how Jennifer introduced new moves with the bands – and who doesn’t love new ways to make your body hurt.

Sweat Session and Optional Cycling

Job 1 is the FIRST of Beachbody’s programs to include the CYCLING WORKOUTS! (Don’t worry – you don’t NEED the bike for this program)

IF you have a stationary bike (a bike is by no means mandatory) you have the option to do Jennifer’s cycling workouts that come with the program. There are 4 of them, one for each week. If you don’t have a bike, do the sweat session videos. Both definitely get your heart rate up. BE SURE to have a towel handy!

Another option  If you have a stationary bike, why not do BOTH workouts back to back? OR you can do an additional cycling workout on Saturday.   Save Sunday is for that amazing recovery stretch! There are so many awesome options to choose from. I love that Jennifer included 4 bike workouts with the program so you can do a different one each week.

I tried a couple of the cycling workouts and they definitely are challenging. IN ALL HONESTY, : cycling/spinning style workouts are not for me. I am a road cyclist and I much prefer riding outside or doing my rides in Zwift (gamified virtual cycling) than doing structured spinning programs. This is just my preference

Overtime (Bonus Workouts)

Bonus workouts… These are GEMS! In addition to Job 1’s recovery stretch, there are bonus GLUTES , CORE, UPPER BODY and LEGs workouts!

I’ve been told that Music is so important for good spin sessions. Well, Jennifer has 8 Spotify Playlists for us! Check those out too!

My Opinion

This program is a short one  20 minutes a day / 5 days a week / 4 weeks long…

I find it very well designed.  Jennifer Jacobs keeps the classes simple by doing the workouts with no cast… This makes the videos very easy to follow with no distractions.

For those who don’t like programs where the super trainer converses throughout the videos, this program is ideal. Jennifer is straight, to the point – there is no chit chat. She finishes at the 20 minute mark. I definitely feel spent at the end of each workout. I highly recommend job 1 and I definitely will be keeping this program at the top of my rotation.
