If you long for the interactive and live feeling of group workouts but ALSO want the convenience of being at home, you have to try BODi – Beachbody On Demand’s newest service!

I have been enjoying BODi (Beachbody on Demand Interactive) for several weeks during its BETA period and I am happy to give you an inside look of this new service.

First Impression

I loved being online with thousands of others and especially with my favorite super trainers, knowing we were all doing this workout at the same time. While I depend on the convenience of doing my beachbody programs at home and on my schedule, I do love having this feature of real time, live workouts to do from home. It motivated me to work even harder.

For the initial workouts I did on BODi, I wasn’t on the BODcast. BODcast is the option to appear on screen behind the trainer. I will talk about that experience later. As for the LIVE experience,I did appreciate seeing the dozens of others who were working out at the same time for sure.

Can I also say that the Live Interactive Studio at Beachbody headquarters is AWESOME????? The production is TOP NOTCH!  I totally appreciated the work that is put into these LIVE shows!

Here is what I loved:

  • The popular music that’s played throughout the show.
  • The studio walls are top to bottom video screens and the dynamic effects are amazing! I love how the different views change up the energy.
  • The dynamic BODcasts screen change too  – sometimes you see 25 people on a screen, sometimes 20 and Every once in a while the BODcast focus is on one person!
  • Of course the multiple camera angles are great too.

The effect is this dynamic and energetic stage that just pumps you up during a workout.

In the very first BODi Burn class by Autumn , I was revved up by flames and fire dancing behind her on the screen. Later that day at the Barre BODi class with Elise, we had an underwater view with gently bobbing jellyfish – I loved both effects. Since then I’ve seen a camouflage background for BODi Bootcamp and road tunnel visual during Cycling as well.

The endless variety of background effects are fantastic. The visual effects coupled with the popular songs piped in during the workouts is superb. Who doesn’t love great music while you are pushing yourself hard??

BODi Overview

Before I move forward with discussing features of Beachbody on Demand Interactive, I want to provide a disclaimer. Much of what I am sharing is what I have observed and studied from using AND carefully reviewing BODi in preparation for this video. The detail I wanted to provide was not documented in the Beachbody FAQs. Also the featres have been evolving for the past several weeks so it is possible that the times of classes and offerings may change. As you listen, please keep that in mind 🙂

Times and Availability

During the early weeks of BODi we just had live workouts – about 3x per day, 3x per week. Now that we are two months in, BODi also offers pre-recorded studio workouts.

Those Pre-Recorded workouts are made especially for BODi.

I do like that I’m seeing some BODi workouts that are taken from and inspired by successful existing BOD programs.  Newbies definitely need to see excerpts from Beachbody on Demands amazing library!

After new workouts have run at their scheduled time, they continue to be accessible so you have the option of doing them at a later date.

LIVE workouts

The LIVE workouts are 30 minutes long and are available 5 days a week. On Monday thru Thursday.they are  5 times per day at  10am, 2pm, 3pm,  4pm, and 5pm Pacific Time. On Friday there is one live class at 10am PT (1pm ET).

NOTE that the Live classes have the lightning bolt with the red background next to the time.

Keep in mind that Beachbody Headquarters is in Santa Monica, California and live workouts occur within Pacific Timezone work hours. Also know that many of the Super Trainers do not live in Santa Monica and have to fly in for their live shows. Knowing all this makes me appreciate when my favorite Beacbbody super trainer is able to do a LIVE workout!

BODcast

The BODcast is a LOT of fun. As a reminder, the BODcast is the technology that allows us to appear on screen behind the trainers while working out live.

Before creating this video, I made sure to get on a couple BODcasts so I could share my experiences with you.

Here are some important points to know:

  • BODcasts are limited to  75 people
  • You can sign up for the BODcast as early as 24 hours before the class is scheduled to go live AS LONG spots are available.
  • Before appearing on the BODcasts, be online and ready to go 15 minutes before the program starts. There will be someone online guiding you to adjust lighting and distance and height of where you will appear on the screen.
  • When you go LIVE – be energetic and have a lot of fun!

Pre-Recorded Workouts

As I mentioned earlier. In addition to the live workouts there are even more pre recorded workouts schedule throughout the day

I hope this chart helps to make the current schedule easy to understand.

Most of the pre-recorded workouts are 30 minutes long but there are 15-20min core workouts and 10 min meditation workouts sprinkled in there!

Searchable

The On-Demand and Future Schedule workouts are searchable!

You can filter by:

  • Class type
  • Duration of the Class
  • Trainer
  • Equipment required (option)

Cycling Classes

I am excited that Beachbody is offering cycling classes. FYI Beachbody now owns the MYX Bike II and offers it for a discounted price. Let me know if you’re interested in purchasing!

Keep in mind that the cycling class works with other non MYX stationary bikesl.

Since I am a road cyclist and use my personal bike on a stationary trainer, I have used  this for the classes. I found that I just needed my cadence sensor and heart monitor  as measure of when and how to kick things up.
