I am a RELUCTANT RUNNER.

When I first started running, it was a means to an end. My martial arts instructor suggested I run to prep for my black belt test.

I ran occasionally – for maybe about 1-2 miles at a time. It was several years before I decided to train and race 5Ks and then another few years before I crossed the 4 mile barrier.  Then I got injured and couldn’t run without pain for a few months.

It was during that time stuck in physical therapy and being told I shouldn’t run more than 4 miles, that I realized I missed running.

I found a new sports specific physical therapist, improved my mechanics, got custom orthothics and was able to run a few months later – I ran my first 10K during a race and felt great.

Fast forward to today where my casted arm is preventing me from riding my bike and immersing my arm in water for a swim. I am SOOO glad I have running to keep me going.

Is there something that you thought you hated but discovered you really liked when it was taken away from you?
