Hammer and Chisel Unpacked
Last week I received Beachbody’s newest fitness program, Hammer and Chisel. This is their first program which is developed by two trainers. Autumn Calabrese of 21 Day Fix and Sagi Kalev of Body Beast. I had actually forgetten that the program includes the nutrition plan and the color code containers so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw them in the box. I think all Beachbody programs should come with this! (Nutrition is so important to our fitness) Here is a picture of the unboxed items.
One thing I love about this program is that it focuses on strength. As a triathlete I don’t need, and generally do not like, DVD cardio workouts. This Hammer and Chisel provides the perfect balance to what I already do with my swimming, biking and running.
I have done 3 of the 12 workouts so here are my thoughts on those…
Chisel Balance. I did this workout after almost 3 weeks of no exercise (December is a crazy month for me!) so it was a nice challenge. I love that Autumn worked on strength together with stability. I really felt my legs and core working throughout the routine.
Hammer Plyometrics. I used to be so intimidated by trainer Sagi of Body Beast. He looks a bit like a beast! He’s looks like a short Hulk. I figured his doing workouts would cause me to bulk up. Not so. Be forewarned his workouts are not for the beginner. Doing those crazy jump squats and burpees are tough but thank goodness each round is just 30 seconds long. Intense but short is one of the things I love about Plyo.
ISO Strength Chisel. This was the first workout of the program that I did since it was available on Beachbody on Demand. My biggest take away was that I could use my stability ball instead of a workout bench. It’s works great for this purpose and it add a bigger challenge to your core.
Hammer and Chisel 60 Day Schedule
The program comes with its own schedule in poster form but I prefer to have one that I can write notes on. Here is my Hammer and Chisel printable:
