The Inaugural Gran Fondo Hincapie Chattanooga
Three words. LOTs OF FUN. This was Hincapie’s first time stepping out of their hometown to host a race but having been to their Greenville event just last year, I knew they would do an awesome job. So when I heard that my friend AnnieLloyd was driving out to Chattanooga, I asked if I could join her.
Like their Greenville event, Hincapie offered race courses in the 15, 50 and 80 mile distances. 50 and 80 is a big jump from 15 … I think Hincapie wants to attract serious riders and provides the 15 miler only for the tag along spouses and kids who decide to explore the beauty of the area by bike.
Either way I opted for the 15 miler since I had a year off any triathlon training and I was just getting back on the horse.
What a busy weekend it was! The Hincapie Ambassadors come in as early as Wednesday and ride in the each day before the race. AL and I opted for the 3 day weekend instead and arrived Friday afternoon with plenty of time to go to packet pickup.
We attended the Hincapie hosted Celebrity Chef Dinner and I got to meet Kristin Mayer of Betty Designs. I am in my third year of being in Kristin’s Betty Squad and this was my first chance to talk to her. I was soooo nervous but that anxiety was no necessary, AT ALL. Kristin is SOOO down to earth and easy to talk to.

Saturday morning I got to meet fellow Betty Squad members, Chloe (left) and Robyn (right) for the first time, minutes before lining up for the race start.
I got to see Allison a bit later as we waited to start. We were positioned up front just behind the VIPs and the Hincapie Ambassadors.
Some folks race this thing. Others, like us, were there for the scenery and the people. During the ride, I enjoyed meeting new friends like Andrea (left) and course marshal Bill (right) – Bill is from Chattanooga and was great to talk to about the area.
Ya gotta love Hincapie’s red carpet finish and medals at the end!
Hincapie races do not end with the ride. They have food and family entertainment like paella, beer and jump houses for the kids. I failed to get a pictures of those because I was too busy enjoying the great company.
It was awesome to meet Christian Van Velde and spend some time with George Hincapie too!
Bettys love Hincapie! I had so much fun hanging out with the Hincapie ambassadors including Joey (right).
The party did not stop there! There were evening festivities too!
More of the Hincapie team below – left to right – Jeff, AnnieLloyd, me, Meredith , me again, Dustin and Craig.
I am looking forward to Hincapie Greenville. Join us in October! See the middle of this post for the link and coupon code for the event.
